Trackmania 2020 Alternate Player Character Skins

The December 14th update added a bunch of stuff around sorta-customizable player skins (either region or std). The update broke this plugin.

If a method is found to alter the new skins, I'll add support to this plugin if possible behind a permissions check. But prelim tests didn't yield any results, unfortunately.

As of Jan 2023, this plugin is deprecated.

Prior readme:

This allows you to change all in-game skins (it changes it for all character models). A restart is required when you change your skin. (Unless you have only been in the menu -- the skin might load in when you load up a map.)

Skin Choice:

• 4 combinations of male/female and dark-gray/creamy-gold. (v0.1.0)
• 5 skins courtesy of @bmx22c: Gold, Pink, Red, Green, and Blue

Support for other skins could be added in the future if there's any demand for that feature and someone makes some.

You don't need this plugin to change the skin, mind, it just makes it easy.

The manual process involves extracting HelmetPilot\Stadium and CharacterPilot\StadiumMale and placing everything in Documents\Trackmania\Skins\Models\HelmetPilot\Stadium (and you need an empty zip at HelmetPilot\Stadium.zip). That's how this plugin works: it adds a custom skin that overwrites Stadium/StadiumMale which is the default. To fix animations for the female model, use Player.Anim.Gbx from the StadiumMale skin.

The background clouds animation was set using Menu BG Chooser v1.1.0 which is approved and awaiting the release of Openplanet v1.25.8 (or later).

The 3D menu scene was modified using hacky dev code that you can find here if you really want.

Manual Uninstall

1. shut down TM
2. delete OpenplanetNext\Plugins\alt-player-skin.op
3. delete the folder Documents\Trackmania\Skins\Models\HelmetPilot\Stadium and the file Documents\Trackmania\Skins\Models\HelmetPilot\Stadium.zip
4. optionally delete aux skins in Documents\Trackmania\Skins\Models\HelmetPilot\ (each skin has a folder and a zip file with the same name -- delete both)
